India made history at the 2023 Academy Awards as both RRR and The Elephant Whisperers clinched wins.
Political leaders congratulated the RRR team for Naatu Naatu’s success, including Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy who tweeted his pride in a Telugu song being recognized internationally.
This wasn’t taken well by popular Bollywood singer Adnan Sami who accused the CM of trying to “create a regional divide” among India’s people.
Nonetheless, netizens defended the tweet and noted that praising a Telugu song doesn’t equate to creating divisions nationwide.
On Oscar night, it could not be denied that two Indian films were being honored with awards – RRR taking home an Oscar for Best Original Song and The Elephant Whisperers winning Best Documentary Film.
